Dalam cendawan Singa Cendawan, terdapat 2 jenis bahan aktif, iaitu Erinacines dan Hericenones. Hericenone terutamanya terdapat dalam tubuh buah cendawan Singa Cendawan manakala erinacine hanya terdapat dalam miselium. Apa yang ini bermakna adalah yang biasa kita konsumsi mengandungi kebanyakan hericenone tetapi tidak mengandungi erinacine.

Kajian telah menunjukkan bahawa hericenones gagal merangsang tahap faktor pertumbuhan saraf (NGF) dalam otak, sementara erinacine A mempunyai kesan yang paling ketara dalam merangsang NGF. Jika begitu, mendapatkan manfaat yang terbaik adalah dengan mengambil ekstrak miselium yang telah diseragamkan dan mengandungi kepekatan erinacine A yang tertinggi.
