What Is My TCM Body Type? Take the Free 2-Minute Body Constitution Quiz

Do you feel cold when everyone else is comfortable? Always tired by mid-afternoon? Easily bloated after rich food, or often hot and thirsty at night? In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), patterns like these are part of what practitioners call your body constitution, or ti zhi.

If you have ever wondered "what is my TCM body type?", you can get a first idea in about 2 minutes with the free Zi TCM Body Constitution Quiz. This guide explains what a body constitution is, how the quiz works, what your result shows, and what to do next.

What is a TCM body constitution?

In TCM, a body constitution describes the overall tendency of your body: how you handle heat and cold, how your energy holds up, how you digest food, and how you react to stress and the seasons. It is shaped by things like age, diet, sleep, stress and climate.

A constitution is a tendency, not a label for life. It can shift over time, which is why TCM daily care is usually adjusted to the person rather than one plan for everyone.

The 9 TCM body constitutions

TCM commonly groups body constitutions into 9 types. The quiz uses these names:

  • Balanced (Ping He): generally steady energy, sleep and appetite.
  • Qi Deficiency (Qi Xu): tends to tire easily and feel short of energy.
  • Yang Deficiency (Yang Xu): tends to feel cold, especially in the hands and feet.
  • Yin Deficiency (Yin Xu): tends to feel warm, dry or thirsty, often at night.
  • Phlegm-Dampness (Tan Shi): tends to feel heavy, sluggish or puffy.
  • Damp-Heat (Shi Re): tends towards oily skin, a bitter taste or feeling hot and sticky.
  • Blood Stasis (Xue Yu): tends towards a dull complexion or poor circulation.
  • Qi Stagnation (Qi Yu): tends to feel tense, low or easily stressed.
  • Sensitive (Te Bing): tends to react more easily to the environment or certain foods.

These short descriptions are general tendencies only. Most people show one main tendency, and some also show a second one.

Baizigui

What your result shows

  • Your main constitution tendency, and a second tendency if another type scores close to it.
  • Everyday wellness tips on diet, sleep and activity for your type.
  • A few Baizigui picks for reference, such as herbal soups and teas, if you want ideas for your kitchen. They are optional.
  • A WhatsApp button to book a consultation with a Zi TCM practitioner if you want to talk it through.

Your answers depend on how you have felt recently, so you can retake the quiz after a few months and compare.

What the quiz can and cannot do

The quiz is a simple starting point for understanding your body. It is for general wellness reference only and is not a medical diagnosis. It cannot tell you whether you have an illness, and it does not replace an assessment by a qualified practitioner.

A TCM practitioner looks at much more than a questionnaire, including your history, tongue and pulse, before suggesting anything. If you feel unwell, have a medical condition, are pregnant or take regular medication, please see a doctor or a registered TCM practitioner before changing your diet or adding herbs.
